In Memoriam: Capt. Eugene B. “Red” McDaniel (USN, Ret.)

It is with profound sadness that we mourn the peaceful passing of Capt. Eugene “Red” McDaniel, U.S. Navy (USN, Ret.), who passed away peacefully at home on August 7, 2026. 

Capt. McDaniel lived a life defined by courage, faith, service, and an unwavering commitment to others. For our family and for ACCfamily, he was so much more than a decorated Navy officer and American hero. He was the heart behind our mission and a living example of what it means to love and serve. 

On May 19, 1967, Capt. McDaniel was shot down over North Vietnam while serving as a Navy pilot aboard the USS Enterprise. He was captured and spent nearly six years as a prisoner of war, enduring unimaginable hardship and brutal conditions. He was finally released on March 4, 1973, during Operation Homecoming and returned home to his family and his country. 

But Capt. McDaniel’s story did not end with his return home. He continued a lifetime of service, becoming a powerful advocate for veterans, POWs, and the responsibilities that come with serving others. He shared his experiences with countless people, using his story to inspire courage, faith, and perseverance. 

That same spirit became part of the foundation of ACCfamily. 

Capt. McDaniel believed deeply in serving others with dignity, compassion, and love. Those values became woven into the fabric of our organization and continue to guide the way we care for families today. His legacy lives in every caregiver who serves a client, every family we support, and every person who chooses to put love into action. 

We were blessed to have Capt. McDaniel not only as our Chairman of the Board Emeritus, but as a mentor, a role model, and a beloved member of our family. His life taught us that true strength is not measured by what we endure, but by how we choose to live afterward. His courage taught us to persevere. His faith taught us hope. His service taught us to put others before ourselves. 

Today, we honor a remarkable American, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, a cherished friend, and a man whose legacy will continue to touch countless lives. We are heartbroken to say goodbye, but deeply grateful for the life he lived and the example he leaves behind.
